Class of 2017
The Midlakes Athletic Hall of Fame congratulates its 2017 inductees: Zach Maslyn, Coach Carl Spoto, and the 2006 boys’ volleyball team.
2006 Boys Volleyball
The 2006 Boys’ Varsity Volleyball Team finished the season with a perfect 10-0 league record and a Finger Lakes League championship on way to an overall 22-5 record that ended as Section V Champions.
The team also won the Central-Western Volleyball Officials’ Sportsmanship Award.
It was coached by Kyle Salisbury and included sophomores Jake Clyde, Erin Kelly, Dan Mowrey, and EJ Wells-Spicer; juniors Josh DeBoover, Tyler DiCicco, and Tony Mineo; and seniors AJ DeSain, Peter Fellenz and Neil Scheible.
Zach Maslyn
Zach Maslyn won two varsity letters in baseball, two in basketball and three in golf. In baseball, Maslyn had a team-high .377 batting average, won the team MVP award and played in the Exceptional Seniors Game. In basketball, he won the Most Improved Player Award and the Midlakes Athletic Association Coaches Award for outstanding skills, sportsmanship, coachability and dedication in 2006.
In golf, Maslyn was first Team All-League twice, second Team All-League once, qualified for the League Tournament all three years and played in the State Qualifier at Oak Hill.
Carl Spoto
Carl Spoto will enter the Hall of Fame as a coach. He was the coach of the year in Boys’ Track three times and led the Midlakes Track Team to nine league championships. He was Coach of the Year in Girls’ Soccer in 2010 and led the girls to three out of four sectional semi-final berths in Midlakes history.
This year’s inductees will be recognized at halftime of the homecoming football game on Oct. 6 and will be formally inducted at a dinner on Oct.7 at the Historic Phelps Hotel. Tickets for the dinner will be available from any board member. The Hall of Fame is accepting nominations for 2018. Nomination forms may be found on the Midlakes Hall of Fame website. The deadline for turning in nominations is Nov. 1.
