The Midlakes Athletics Hall of Fame has announced its Class of 2026 inductee, who will be joined by the Class of 2025 inductees for during the Hall of Fame induction ceremony September 25, 2026.

Football standout Clay Hemminger was inducted as the lone inductee.

A committee of former coaches, administrators, and community supporters considers individual athletes, teams, and exceptional contributors for induction into the Hall of Fame. Athletes are eligible for induction 10 years after they graduate.

Here’s a closer look at the 2026 inductee:

CLAY HEMMINGER

Hemminger played as a two-sport athlete, playing both lacrosse and football. He excelled in football.

Hemminger several All-League honors. In 2007, he was awarded a Finger Lakes All-League First Team nomination as a linebacker, and the same year, earned Second Team honors  as a running back. He was also a 2007 All-Greater Rochester Second Team honoree. In 2006, he was named as a Finger Lakes All-League Third Team nominee.

Hemminger earned the Athlete of the Year award in his time at Midlakes Schools. He earned the Steve Jones Award and the McCallister Award, and the 2007 Captain's Award. He was a two-time WACK 1420 AM Player of the Year, a Daily Messenger Defense Second Team nominee.

Hemminger earned Scholar Athlete recognition in both 2006 and 2007. He was a team-leader in both rushing and tackles in 2007. He went on to play four years of college football, earning All-Conference Second Team nominations in 2008 and 2009 before earning First Team honors in 2010.

Clay will be inducted into the Hall along with the 2025 inductees Dan Mowery, Joe Petzoldt, and E.J. Wells-Spicer at a dinner on September 25 at 6 pm  Warfield's in Clifton Springs. The cost of the event will be $55, payable by Venmo (@ali_masso) or by check made out to the Midlakes Athletic Hall of Fame and mailed to Ali Masso, 5286 Overlook Lane, Canandaigua, NY 14424. The reservation deadline is Sept. 15.

Anyone wishing to nominate an athlete or team to the Hall should go to the Midlakes web site and click on Athletics, Hall of Fame, Nomination Forms. All nominations should be sent to the Hall at Midlakes High School and must be received before November 1. Induction ceremonies for both the Hall of Fame Class of 2025 and 2026 will be during Homecoming Week, at 6 pm Sept. 25 at Warfield's in Clifton Springs.
